Serena Williams: bidding for her 62nd win at Melbourne Park

World No 1 Serena Williams will be back in action on Sunday as she bids to continue her record-breaking run at the Australian Open.

The American broke Margaret Court's record of 60 Australian Open wins when she beat Daniela Hantuchova in the third round and will be bidding for her 62nd success at Melbourne Park when she takes on Ana Ivanovic on Rod Laver Arena.

Williams has dropped just nine games in her three matches to date, while Serbian Ivanovic had to come through a gruelling three-setter against home favourite Sam Stosur in round three, eventually coming through 6-7 (10-8) 6-4 6-2.

Remarkably for two veterans of the WTA Tour, Ivanovic and Williams have met just four times over the past eight years and the stats do not read well for the 14th seed. Williams has won all four matches and has yet to drop a set against the former world No 1.

German ninth seed Angelique Kerber kicks off proceedings on Sunday morning on Rod Laver against 28th-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta.

Australian Open specialist Novak Djokovic is also in action on Rod Laver as he continues his seeemingly relentless progress towards a fifth Melbourne crown and his third in a row.

The second seed is up against Italian 15th seed Fabio Fognini and has yet to drop a set in his first three matches.

Comfortable

His comfortable win over Denis Istomin was Djokovic's 27th straight victory dating back to his US Open final defeat by Rafael Nadal and his 24th in a row at Melbourne Park.

Fognini looked in decent nick as he came through round three against American Sam Querrey in straight sets, but the form book is very much against him. In seven previous meetings, Djokovic has yet to drop a set.

Third seed David Ferrer of Spain is in action on Hisense Arena, where he will take on unseeded German Florian Mayer, but in terms of competitiveness, the pick of the action may be the final match on Laver.

Eighth seed Stanislas Wawrinka faces Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo. The Swiss player is in form and on the rise, but his record against the 31-year-old Robredo is woeful, the 17th seed enjoying a 6-1 career advantage head-to-head.
