Twitch says 2013 will be cited as a year that was “the tipping point of streaming”In its Thursday-released `Twitch 2013 Retrospective' report, popular streaming provider Twitch has asserted that 2013 was a big year for game streaming and for the company; and added that game streaming will get bigger in 2014.
The report released by Twitch - which was launched in June 2011 - chronicles some of the achievements which the company made in 2013, as well as lays out its objectives and aspirations in 2014.
The 2013 achievements which Twitch has cited in its report include the disclosure that the company attracted a staggering 45 million unique viewers in December.  The numbers mark a substantial increase over the company's 2011 launch-year figures of 3.2 million unique viewers --- a figure which was considered a big deal even at that time.
According to the report, there currently are more than 900,000 unique broadcasters on Twitch.  These broadcasters air 12 billion minutes on a monthly basis, which amounts to saying that 106 minutes of Twitch video are watched per person per day.
Noting that 2013 will - ten years from now - be considered the year which was "the tipping point of streaming," Matthew DiPietro - Twitch VP of marketing - said in a statement: "Every major event, publisher, developer, and media outlet in the gaming industry had a presence on Twitch, and streaming became an ever-present piece of the gaming experience.  And it's only going to get bigger."
