This is one of the significant reasons that Scotland has been witnessing a rise in the number of people suffering from health problems. A campaign has been launched that urges pubs to serve 125ml glasses of wine instead of 175ml and 250ml.
Public Health Minister Michael Matheson said they are expecting that the campaign will encourage responsible drinking behaviour among Scottish people. In general, alcohol is served in three sizes: small is of 125 ml, medium is 175 ml and large is 250ml.
Dr. Evelyn Gillian, Chief Executive of Alcohol Focus Scotland, said every measure that brings a decline in alcohol consumption rate is nice. But she does not think that the idea will be able to bring much difference.
For her, rise in alcohol prices and reducing its availability will bring the desired results. Dr. Gillian affirmed that decline has been witnessed in drinking, but consumption rate continues to be a problem.
"We're drinking twice the amount we were in the 1960s, alcohol-related hospital admissions have trebled over the past 30 years, so there's certainly no room for complacency", said Dr. Gillian.
