As per a research, cats think that humans are no different, but are larger cats. This is the reason that cats greet humans with tails up and rub on their legs. Researcher John Bradshaw from the University of Bristol was of the view that same behaviour is seen when smaller cats communicate with bigger cats.
"In cat society, this sequence is usually performed by a smaller cat towards a larger one -- a kitten or young cat towards its mother or an older relative, a female towards a male", affirmed Bradshaw.
Bradshaw said that one of the probable meanings of showing such type of behavior can be that smaller cats want to be friendly with the larger ones. Bradshaw has been studying the behaviour and patterns of cats for past many years.
One of the patterns that have been noticed by Bradshaw is that interaction between cats and humans gets longer if it is initiated by cats. It takes time for cats to get comfortable for which it goes through the ritual of the tail-up and rubbing knees.
It is very important that your furry feline should be comfortable before you make efforts to have friendship with it.
