Age is Biggest Risk Factor for Cancer: Research 


 ResearchNumber of people suffering from cancer is increasing day by day. Age is considered as the major risk factor for the disease. As life expectancy of people is increasing, the number of people suffering with the same is also increasing.
Today’s generation leads a very different lifestyle as compared to previous generation. Factors like smoking, obesity, lack of balanced diet i.e. diet deprived fruits and vegetables, drinking alcohol are likely to cause cancer.
A UK charity reveals that about one-third of a million people are identified with cancer annually. As per the charity, breast, lung, bowel and prostate cancer are most common and are responsible for increasing number of people suffering from cancer.
In 2011, nearly 330,000 people were identified with some or other type of cancer. As many as 283,000 cases of cancer were identified in 2001.  Cancer Research UK revealed that the rate of people diagnosed with cancer have increased by approximately 35% between 1975 and 2011. In 2011, nearly 159,000 people expired because of cancer in the UK.
Availability of advanced medical equipments and increased knowledge is helping in early detection of the disease. Also, research is being performed by the researchers to get more and more knowledge about cancer.
Cancer Research UK's Chief Executive Dr. Harpal Kumar says, “Research is the only way we'll be able to reduce the devastating impact of the disease. One day we will beat cancer”.
