SK Telecom to roll out 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network later this year

SK Telecom to roll out 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network later this yearIn a Monday announcement, South Korean wireless carrier SK Telecom has revealed that it has plans underway to roll out its blazing fast 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network towards the later part of 2014.  The company has named the ultra-fast mobile internet service as the `3Band LTE-A.'
The announcement is highly noteworthy, given the fact that SK Telecom launched a 150 Mbps LTE-Advanced network in mid-2013; and is also working to offer an even faster technology which will provide 450Mbps transfer rates, though that is currently not ready for commercialization.  The carrier plans to unveil the 450Mbps technology at the Mobile World Congress next month.
About its plans related to the upcoming 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network, SK Telecom said that the high-speed network will benefit from three LTE bands: 20MHz + 10MHz + 10MHz.  However, as of now, the carrier is still waiting on chipsets to exploit the technology.
With regard to the benefits of faster 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced network for users, SK Telecom said that the downloading of an 800MB movie will take 7 minutes and 24 seconds using 3G; nearly 43 seconds over regular LTE-Advanced; and merely 22 seconds using the 3Band LTE-A service.
The upcoming 300 Mbps LTE-Advanced service from SK Telecom indicates an even faster mobile internet service, which has already overshadowed broadband speeds.  As per a Yonhap News Agency report, SK Telecom's new LTE 'standard' doubles previous speed champion LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) speeds to 300 Mbps by aggregating "more than two frequency bands."
