As a result of the update, the VLC for iOS app now apes the overall design language of Apple's iOS 7 software, with a flatter and simplified look. The update can now be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.
According to the information shard on an iTunes page, the updated VLC iOS version unfolds a new look for the media player; giving it multitouch gestures, an overhauled user interface (UI) for the TV shows and audio libraries, support for new formats, increased privacy, and a new startup tutorial.
The behind-the-scenes improvements resulting from the update include some functionality tweaks and additions which have been eagerly awaited by the service's users. The updated VLC for iOS app now boasts integration with Google Drive, as well as support for streaming films from Dropbox. Though content delivery from Google Drive is limited only to downloads, users will be able to both download and stream from Dropbox.
Moreover, along with the cloud-based options, VLC also has better stability with local UPnP - universal plug and play - multimedia servers, and improved Wi-Fi upload reliability when multiple items are processed.
