The disclosure by Sony is highly noteworthy because HBO GO is apparently one of the most desired features on Sony's gaming platforms, especially after the feature made its way to Microsoft's Xbox platform some time back.
Sony's partnership will HBO marks a significant new platform for the HBO GO service which unfolds the streaming-on-demand advantage for subscribers of the pay cable/satellite channels, enabling them to stream virtually every TV show aired on the network, as well as hundreds of premium movies.
Although Sony has not yet divulged the exact dates set for the debut of the HBO GO service on the PS3 and PS4 consoles, the company has revealed in the blog post that the partnership was announced by HBO CEO Richard Plepler at the Buzzfeed Brews event held in New York City on Thursday.
Noting that HBO GO will first come aboard PS3 and then followed on PS4, Phil Rosenberg - SVP of business development at Sony Computer Entertainment America - said on the PlayStation blog: "Keep checking back here for more updates on when the HBO GO app will be available to download on PS3 and PS4."
