The unveiling of the new aluminum F-150 truck by Ford will probably cause a flutter in the traditional, mostly steel pickup truck segment. However, the use of aluminum in the 2015 F-150 still leaves the truck open to questions about its durability and repair costs.
Nonetheless, with the Ford F-150 pickup already being the best-selling truck in the full-size pickup segment, the new 2015 aluminum model of the pickup will be even lighter; thanks to Ford's use of aluminum for the vehicle's production.
With approximately 700 pounds less weight, the new aluminum F-150 will boast a lighter body, which will not only give the pickup truck a notably improved fuel economy, but will also apparently give Ford an edge over the competitors. In fact, the aluminum F-150 pickup will also be equipped with a new 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 engine which will further increase the vehicle's fuel economy.
About the new 2015 aluminum F-150 from Ford, KBB. com's senior analyst Jack Nerad said: "It's a big deal. I think some of Ford's competitors were probably surprised at the amount of aluminum in the truck, and what it could do for Ford."
