In order to reach at the above given conclusion, the study researchers said that they showed a pair of pictures of a same woman to the volunteers. The images were shown to them 1.5 seconds each and there was a break of one second between the photos.
After showing the photos, the study researchers asked the participants about the changes in the photos. In certain cases, there was no change and in other photos, change ranged from different hairstyle to change in accessories.
The study researchers noted that the participants were able to judge a change even if they were unable to exactly tell about the modification.
"There is a common belief that observers can experience changes directly with their mind, without needing to rely on the traditional physical senses such as vision, hearing, taste, smell and touch to identify it", affirmed lead researcher Piers Howe from the Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences.
